Modeled after something that has been done in the craft beer industry for a number of years, Viaja has announced that it is going to be making a yearly release, which is a cigar made with another cigar manufacturer. The initial 2014 release is of very little surprise. Collaborating with Casa Fernandez seemed like a no-brainer since so much of Viaje's tobacco comes from Casa's AGANORSA growing operation in Nicaragua. This Nicaraguan puro has aged filler and binder tobacco that is draped with a mocha-hued Nicaraguan corojo 99 wrapper leaf.
This first thing that will hit your senses is an amazing pre-light aroma of nuts and coffee, which mixes with an oak-like woodsiness. These flavors play a backnote once lit though, as your mouth will begin to be filled with a fantastic spice and an earthy leather. Despite all the flavors and complexity, this is a mild-medium-bodied smoke which seems to build with every third of the cigar smoked. Do not mistake the body with flavor, though, because this stick is full of amazing tastes.
